Tourists in Ice...
Never before have so many foreign tourists visited Iceland in June than last month. According to the statistics of the Icelandic Tourist Board, 65,606 foreign tourists departed from Keflavík International Airport last month, which is an increase of 11,215 persons compared to June 2010, or 20.6 percent.

When single market areas are looked at, there is a 50.4 percent increase in tourists from North America, 17 percent increase from the Nordic countries, 15.7 from central and southern Europe, 7.6 from the UK and 12 percent from other countries, Morgunbladid reports.

As for single nations, most tourists in June 2011 came from the USA (17.7 percent), followed by Germany (14.6 percent), Norway (8.1 percent), Denmark (6.9 percent), the UK (6.6 percent), Sweden (6.1 percent) and France (6.0 percent).

Combined, these seven nations account for almost two thirds of all foreign tourists who visited Iceland last month.

So far this year, 206,886 foreign tourists have departed from Keflavík International Airport, which is an increase of 35,636 persons compared to the same period in 2010, or 20.8 percent.
